General Regulations

U nder the guidance and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Department of Culture & Information of Sharjah Government has been organising international book exhibitions in Sharjah since 1982, a 1 0 -day annual event usually held during the first half of Decemb er. The prime aim of S harjah World Book Fair is to generate reading habit among the people, mainly the younger generation, and to make quality books accessible to them at affordable prices.

International Representations:

In recognition of its international standard and success, the Sharjah World Book Fair is given memberships of many international organizations such as (1) Afro-Asian Book Council (2) Arab Publishers' Association (3) GCC Book Committee, etc.
Recognized by : International Publishers' Association (IPA).

General Organization:

- S harjah World Book Fair has got two main divisions: (a) Display division (2) Sales division.

- Both the divisions will have Arabic language and Foreign language sections .

Visiting hours:

- Morning: (09:00 - 13:00)

- Evening: (16:30 - 22:30)

- Fridays: (16.30 - 22.30)

- Boys' Schools: Saturdays & Mondays ( 09:00 hrs to 13:00 hrs).

- Girls' Schools: Sundays, Tuesdays ( 09:00 hrs to 13:00 hrs)

- General Public: Daily (16:30 - 22:30)

- Saturdays & Thursdays: (9:00 - 13:00) & (16:30 - 22:30)

- Children's Activities: (10:00 - 12:00) & (17:00 - 19:00)

- Associated Activities : Daily (17:00 - 21:00)

Participants:

(a) Publishing houses or their authorised agents (b) c ultural establishments , research centres, societies, universities, media.

(c) Producers of educational aids, maps, audios/videos.

Book Fair Guide:

The Book Fair Guide published annually provides full information on the current book fair .

Book Fair Catalogue / CD:

The catalogue and CD, published in Arabic and English languages, contain full information on available titles (title name, author, price, e tc.) that are available at the fair, with a special children's books section . (Dewy System is applied for subject classification.)
